Need Tactical Gear?

July 5th, 2008 -- Posted in General Stuff, Uncategorized | No Comments »

I would think there are many reasons for needing quality tactical gear. Anyone who is in the military or law enforcement would need a variety of items like backpacks, boots, body armour, compression shirts and shorts, eyewear, gloves…the list goes on and on. If you use and need good tactical gear, here is an excellent source for your needs.

We Had a Nice Fourth…

July 4th, 2008 -- Posted in General Stuff | No Comments »

Lots of food, great weather, lots of noisemakers and home fireworks.  We had a squirt gun fight, the kids marched the local parade, and we played croquet, too.  I do have some nice pics, too…so stay tuned!

Help? What Would You Pay For This Bag?

July 1st, 2008 -- Posted in General Stuff | 4 Comments »

I made this bag this afternoon. It is made out of 3 fat quarters and has a double pocket inside and another larger pocket in the back (yellow polkadots). The front has two tucks and a bit of loose elastic along the top opening. The front flap is also slightly quilted in a geometric pattern.

This bag measures 8.25 x 9 inches and has a strap that is 42 inches. I haven’t decided whether THIS actual bag is for sale yet, as Sarah has her eye on it…

But if I were to sell it, are there any experts who could help me price it?

Hey Thanks Izea!

Look what was sitting in my mailbox today! It’s a 4th of July package! Contains a bottle of BBQ sauce, a drink cooler, a fan, a flag toy, a little Uncle Sam guy, and a SocialSpark Frisbee that folds up into a carrying pouch!

Cool eh? Just one of many reasons why blogging for PayPerPost rocks!

Thanks much!:)

I Hate Mosquitoes!

June 27th, 2008 -- Posted in General Stuff | 1 Comment »

UGH!  The mosquitoes are so bad where we live!

Both yesterday and today I had Isaiah and Abby out for walks in the double jogger with the mosquito netting over them to protect them.

When I checked on them as they sat there I could hardly believe my eyes.  The netting was absolutely COVERED with mosquitoes on the outside trying to get in to them.  It was just disgusting!

I heard that with all of the flooding we have had so far this season we may have LESS mosquitoes than usual because their eggs would be washed away. So far…NOT the case.

I hate bug spray…anyone know of anything natural that really works?  It’s getting to the point where we are beginning to avoid outside activities due to these things!

On the Subject of Men’s Jewelry

June 26th, 2008 -- Posted in General Stuff | No Comments »

One of my favorite pieces of men’s jewelry is cuff links. Is that weird? I don’t know why, but when I see a man dressed nicely in a suit, if he is wearing cuff links it just suggests an attention to detail and a taste for class that can’t be faked. It just looks really nice to me. Add a nice watch to this great pair of cuff links and he can sell me almost anything! LOL

Let Loose a Little Bit With a Costume…

June 24th, 2008 -- Posted in General Stuff | No Comments »

I can think of all sorts of occasions for costumes. Halloween costumes are definitely NOT the only costume-wearing occasion as far as we are concerned. Actually, our family does not celebrate Halloween, but that doesn’t stop us from needing a good costume from time to time!

In some of the city parades we have in our town, those marching wear some really neat costumes. A few years ago our city celebrated its Sesquicentennial and we celebrated as a city by throwing a huge three-day party. It was so much fun and my kids talked about it for weeks before and after the festivities. One of the biggest events was a parade in the middle of the day that was just out of this world. I could hardly believe how many participants there were and the costumes we saw were amazing! Mostly period costumes and they were really neat. My girls especially were captivated.

My favorite type of costumes are definitely period costumes. As homeschoolers we are always looking for interesting ways to learn, and by far the best way to make history come alive is by having everyone dress up! This is NOT something I have to push my kids to do either, as you might imagine. Kids love to dress up in costumes.

We spent a lot of time learning about Colonial America last school year with the elementary-grade kids. Pretty much from Columbus on through the the Declaration of Independence. If I had presented my little students with costumes like these:

they would have gone nuts. They would have been so excited. My experience in teaching children has been that anything you can do to make it seem REAL for them will cement it in their little brains. Costumes are perfect for achieving this. I’m not sure what period of history we’ll be focusing on next school year yet, but I’ll definitely remember where to find cool costumes!

Have You Ever Been on Hold…

June 23rd, 2008 -- Posted in General Stuff | No Comments »

…for a REALLY long time and you’re starting to get impatient…until…a song comes on that you haven’t heard for years that you love?

This happened to me this morning. I was on hold and had been listening to their selection of waiting music. AND THEN…a song came on that I haven’t heard for years and I always loved it. It is actually a Kenny G song from his “Moments” album that I absolutely LOVE.

Anyway…now instead of being impatient, I was praying that I wouldn’t come up to the top of the queue. Guess what? I didn’t have to worry - I had time to listen to this song plus a few more!
