David’s Drumming Passion

I got one of those phone calls all parents enjoy so much today.

David’s band teacher called me to tell me about a scheduling change for classes today and after that he took the time to mention how great David is doing in band. It seems at Pep Band last night (basketball game), David was the lone drummer holding up the percussion section by himself for about 20 minutes. His teacher was very impressed with David’s abilities and wanted us to know how well he is doing.

On the home front, David just finished adding the final touches to his new drum set today with the addition of two base pedals. After much tweaking, screwing, rearranging and fixing (no Baldwin hardware involved), he has pronounced his drum set “perfect.” Just in time for him to turn **16** tomorrow.

Sigh…another one growing up! Happy Birthday David!

  1. Awesome! I know you’re proud of him!
Our son was in band (percussion) from 6th-12th grades. He mostly played the vibes and marimba but played some on the drums. In college, he’s still in band and this semester is taking drums.
Several years ago, I was in a store with our son and daughter (she’s older). My daughter and I started hearing something and were trying to figure out what the noise was. Our son had found a big, empty box and was using it as a drum. LOL :) He would use anything he could to drum (hands, chop sticks, pencils, etc.) Do you ever have experiences like that?

Oh, that sounds so much like David, Charla. In fact, we knew years before he actually started drums in 5th grade that he was a drummer. He used to pound on EVERYTHING!
