How Do You Stay Warm?

Do you do the heated water bed? Electric blanket? Tons of quilts? Heated mattress pads? We have a wool quilt and an electric blanket that keep us toasty. Every year I look at heated mattress pads and wonder how nice it would be to have heat coming up from underneath you in bed too. It seems like it would be really cozy and warm. Anyone have one?

If I remember right, and I might not but there are some who say those should be avoided by those who are pregnant since you don’t want to get too warm since that could cause issues for the fetus (also why you should avoid hot tubs and very hot showers/baths).
A few of the apartments we have lived in have had at least one bedroom that would be colder than the rest of the house. For years, we’ve owned a nice, thick, heavy feather down comforter. My mom had found a few at the Salvation Army, I think and you just find a cover for it and you’re set. They are REALLY heavy but it helps keep you nice and warm even if your room is 20 degrees colder than the rest of the house.
Last year, I just piled the blankets up in the house we were staying in (we couldn’t bring the feather blanket, it was too big so John left it behind) including a velour blanket and two comforters. My one friend gets blankets from The Company Store (which has a local manufacturing plant as they are made in La Crosse, WI) and piles her bed up with those. I’ve never been cold at her place. lol
This year, we’re using a portable electric heater mainly because it has the added benefit of drying the bedroom where the mold is growing and an astonishing rate. The other option of course is to turn on the floor heat (run by gas) and since our bed is on the floor, that heats things up pretty nicely. Unfortunately, it gets expensive so we tend to have the thermostat for that set at 20 C (68F).
Of course, it’s always fun here because John and I have different levels of heat/cold tolerance. He is easily chilled whereas I’m easily overheated. I actually moved to the colder room of our last place because I thought it was absurd to run the heat to keep that room warm for Natalie when I was having to run the fan in the bedroom to keep me from roasting to death. lol
