Making the Switch to Bluray?

Have you done this? Are you considering it?

Personally…I’m more than a little miffed that they are changing formats YET AGAIN. We still have bins of video cassettes and audio cassettes for crying out loud! We now have fully committed to DVDs and they are now mixing it up again. Maybe instead of following the pack, we’ll stage a protest and refuse to buy a bluray player. Of course…we all know that we’d cave eventually…

So…is it worth it?

  1. My friend has Blu-Ray and the movies look really good. She did her research on the kind of TV to buy that works the best with it and she has a pretty rocking theater system. They’re expensive though, usually a good $5 more than regular DVDs of new movies and I haven’t seen cheap Blu-Ray movies out yet. That bites that they are pushing this just when DVDs get reasonably cheap. As it is, I won’t buy Disney movies because of their stupid vault thing that keeps their movies insanely expensive, now they’re going to push a format that’s considerably more expensive than the rest of the pack? Blah. Maybe I should look into that laptop with the Blu-Ray DVD player on it but, considering the luck I had with the LAST computer (hard drive died after only having it a year and a half), it would die before I had a chance to get any Blu-Ray movies.

Technology is quickly leaving people behind, that’s for sure. I’m really frustrated right now with the fact that the two HD TVs that I have watched shows on have been really bad as far as closed captioning goes. It doesn’t work. That’s just not cool at all. *sigh* Oh well, it’s probably going to be another year or two before we even get back to the US.
