Promises Treatment Center
I have such respect and admiration for people who are fighting addiction and who have the courage and strength to do something about it. It takes a very strong person to embark on a journey like this.
I think in our society today we are more and more geared toward encouraging addictions simply because of the over-consumption of just about everything. The common thought process is that more is better. Then when you consider a substance that is addictive it becomes all the more easy to fall into an addiction cycle.
I was just reading last week about how difficult the heroin detox process is. Actually, what I was reading is that the methadone that is commonly used to replace heroin is even more difficult to detox from. What a nightmare! Heroin typically takes about a week to detox from and methadone typically takes about six weeks and has to be done very, very carefully! I cannot even imagine how difficult this must be.
Well…if you need help, Promises Treatment Center can certainly assist you in getting your life back in order again and on the right track. Check them out if you or a family member needs help with an addiction.
While it does take longer to withdraw from methadone if discontinued abruptly, a proper taper, done slowly and carefully, causes no undue discomfort. It is when people rush through the process or jump off their dose without tapering that problems occur.
The point of methadone treatment is not to be a tool to help you taper off heroin–if it were then it WOULD make more sense to just taper off heroin in the first place. People come to methadone treatment because they can’t STAY off the heroin, etc. That is often due to sometimes permanent changes in the brain chemitry (endorphins) from long term opiate use. Methadone stabilizes the brain chemistry so the patient can live normally again, but may be required for many years–even for life with some people. So, the length of time it takes to successfully withdraw from the medication is not really a factor for most patients.
Yes, I was reading about how carefully the tapering has to be done with methadone. I was also reading about how the toxins from these drugs ends up in people’s fat stores and this makes it very hard to stay clean from these things forever.
Can you provide a citation for that?
I will see if I can find my source…I was just reading this online last week so I should be able to find it.
While I was surfing internet, I came across another addiction treatment center that also offers similar facilities. Can check out this site to see if it could be of some help to anyone out there facing addiction related problems.
