Our Explosive Afternoon
I saw another mommy blogger talking about some of the neat toys and kits she had found at Kobold Toys and because I’m such a sucker for anything that looks like it may be both fun AND educational, I had to check this site out. Well…let’s just say that my kids are sure glad I did because a few days later (they ship fast!) a box came with lots of neat things in it for us to keep busy with this winter.
The first thing we decided to give a try was this:
Yes…it is a volcano making kit! But don’t be scared…it was really cool, the kids liked it a lot, and it didn’t destroy my kitchen.
Here we are all set up. Everything necessary to complete the project was included except for a few drops of dishwashing liquid and red food coloring.
Here is Isaiah surveying our freshly poured volcano. The plaster of paris dried for about 30 minutes in the mold and we were ready to move on to the next step.
Ready to paint!
The directions said for best results to wait 24 hours for the volcano to “cure”…but we couldn’t wait so decided to risk it. The painting seemed to work perfectly fine without waiting at all. All of the kids added their artistic touches to the volcano, however, Isaiah was the last to finish up and I think he managed to cover up everyone else’s efforts with his own painting…LOL!
Ready for a explosion! A little baking soda…a little vinegar…a drop of dishwashing liquid…and a drop of red food coloring…and WOW!
They had a lot of fun…and now we have a cool volcano that can be reused as often as they like for some neat vocanic action!
