My Newest Kitchen Gadget

Look what I just got!

This is a clay rice cooker/slow cooker. I am notorious for starting rice and forgetting it until I smell that awful burning smell. Well…those days are over now that I have this baby.

The specs:

“THE MAGIC OF CLAY SLOW COOKING HAS NOW ARRIVED, WITH AN ELECTRIC ENHANCEMENT”. Cooking at a perfectly computerized balance of temperature within breathing porous clay brings out its extraordinary texture and flavor. Natural Zisha clay, the legendary secret behind the new VitaClay™ Chef, was formed over thousands of years by cleansing rainfalls that scrubbed the mountains in southern China, releasing minerals into lakes and forming huge beds of Zisha, known as the “Pride of China”.

I have the 8-cup model that can also double as a slow cooker and is supposed to make some really killer soups and stews.  So far I have made brown rice in it for a stir-fry and it turned out perfectly.  It has four different settings for various types of rice and it knows how to cook all of them it seems.  No programming involved at all.

Next I need to try a stew in it – that should be fun, too!
