What's Your Gas Price Threshold?
So…I’m curious…have you decided what your gas price threshold is yet?
I have and we’ve reached it. I have formally challenged myself to leave my van and car parked as much as possible during the week and walk and bike.
For about six weeks now, here’s what I’ve been doing. I do our weekly shopping on Sundays. This involves driving about 30 miles into the nearest pretty big city to get to the stores I need. Once this shopping is done, though I park my vehicles.
Any errands I need to do during the week are done on foot or bike. This includes banking, shopping, library, and even the kids ballgames (if they are in town). I have seen a lot of good come out of this, btw. My waistline is improving and my gas budget is getting by.
Have you made any changes yet? If so, what are they? If not, do you have a particular point in mind that you think you might implement changes? I’d love to hear!
Just wanted to say HI. I found your blog a few days ago on Technorati and have been reading it over the past few days.
We’re retired and live in a city of near 1.5 million, there are some things we use that are near but most are not so we drive BUT what I have done is get choosier about when I drive and how many errands I can run that are close together in order to minimize the impact.
We don’t have monster vehicles (both have mid sized sedans although his is a V8 and mine is a big 6 but anyway).
I just try to stay at home more.
I suspect we’ll see fuel in the $6-8 range before it starts to come down again but the days of anything less than 4-5 a gallon are long over.
I wrote a very similar post to this on Friday. Since my job requires that I spend 7 hrs a day in Target, I try to buy any groceries or anything else I need in there. If I can’t get it there I get it on the way home. I’ve cut back drastically on other things in my household and electric use, etc. Luckily my company pays for all my gas since I do lots of travel for them. But I try to buy my gas at the least expensive places. I think we Americans can sacrifice more if we have too. I agree with Mamaflo that anything less than $4-$5 is gone. However here in Dallas it hasn’t hit $5.00 yet. I just pray a lot that God gives us all wisdom to handle it properly.

I haven’t reached mine yet but there is nothing I can to about it. My job is either 40 miles away each way or 20 miles away. I usually go to the 20 miles away site but my base is the 40 miles one. I do try to combine errands in the car but travel to work cannot be changed.
