A Field Trip to the Stark Museum of Art

I wish I could tell you that we were taking a field trip to the Stark Museum of Art. I know that everyone in my family would absolutely love to visit and spend time at this museum.

Located in Orange, Texas, this is a unique place to visit to explore the art of the American West.

I spent quite a bit of time browsing around their site this afternoon and I came away with a strong desire to see this museum. Listen to some of the collections!

1. Western Art - conveys the artistic interpretation of the western region over two centuries
2. American Indian Art - consists of objects created by the tribes of the Great Plains, Southwest, Eastern Woodlands and Northwest Coast
3. Decorative Art - features primarily glass and porcelain
4. Rare Books and Manuscripts - includes The Birds of America by naturalist John James Audubon

The Stark Foundation is a non-profit corporation founded in 1961 with a mission of improving the quality of life in Southeast Texas. This is done by encouraging, promoting and assisting education, the arts, and health and human services. The Stark Museum of Art is just one of several programs that the Stark Foundation has created. This means that admission to the Stark museum is completely FREE - always!

Some other education services to note:

1. Docent-led tours are available to small and large groups for any grade level
2. Workshops and online lesson plans are available for teachers
3. Interactive activities are available for children
4. A research library is available for scholars studying the art of the American West

I wish we were closer to Orange, Texas, because this museum sounds like a wonderful resource for anyone interested in exploring art of the American West. In lieu of visiting the museum, I encourage you to visit their website. That is a treat as well!
