My day yesterday…

It was a really nice day. Nice and mellow and relaxed. Toward the middle of the afternoon the kids decided they were going to bake a cake. I was sitting in a chair that gave me a great vantage point. I could see and hear them, yet they didn’t know I was sitting there observing them. It was perfect.

Anyway, Sarah assembled the ingredients and then David decided that baking the cake was going to be his gift to me. So he really threw himself into it and the two of them worked at it. Then a few minutes later Daniel happened on the scene. So now I had my three biggies working together in the kitchen toward a common goal…and working so well together! THAT in itself was a wonderful gift and scene to behold. I wish I had had a pen and piece of paper so that I could have jotted down a little bit of the conversation because it was hilarious. It was very entertaining, I tell you.

They were following a recipe, but tweaking and modifying as they went. Apparently it called for walnuts, but since we didn’t have any of those they threw in a half a can of salted mixed nuts. Ummmmmm…this might have been the only drawback of the whole cake. Other than the large cashews and brazil nuts in it, it was absolutely delish! David even made frosting and it turned out wonderful.
