Talking to the Self
When you talk to yourself in your mind, which self is it? And how?
Usually people talk to the most superficial aspects of their everyday personality. And often its root is a stream of fears, complaints and mindless repetition of old things. Really, if we talked that way to another human being, we would have to apologize. Learning and remembering how to talk properly to the self is a spiritual journey.
Thoughts from the past and worries about the future are not good conversation starters. Talk to your mind as if it were a child instead. Talk to it gently. You know how if you try to force a child to sit down, he won’t? A wise mother knows how to encourage her child to do what she wants. Be a wise mother to your self. Teach it good, positive thoughts so that when you want it to sit quietly, it will.
