Fiskars' Project Orange Thumb
Since 2003, Fiskars has been awarding the Project Orange Thumb Grant to over 10 groups across the coutry to help encourage the development and building of community garden spaces. This promotes community involvement, creativity, as well as sustainable gardening by providing garden tools and accessories and even financing to purchase green garden goods.
Gardening is one of those activities that just doesn’t have anything negative about it. It is absolutely win-win for everyone involved. It is great exercise, it can’t be beat as a family project (kids love it!), it can be a great outlet for your creativity, it will lend beauty to your yard, it stimulates involvement in the community, and the results will either produce delicious vegetables or beautiful flowers! See? There just isn’t anything that isn’t good about this!
Here is one winning group – a group of high schoolers from Buffalo, New York!
In visiting the Fiskars site, I was impressed by the many entries. They were simply awesome! The winning gardens were truly inspiring to me. This type of program and contest is really something that Fiskars should be proud of. They are encouraging a great hobby and that is a good thing.
